
Today, His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), officially inaugurated the 9th edition of the National Youth Games(sports) at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, the capital of Delta State.

Represented by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communications, Mr. Sunday Dare, the President described the Games as a crucial platform for talent discovery. He reaffirmed his administration’s strong commitment to sports as a powerful force for national unity.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, with his message delivered by the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emomotimi Guwor, highlighted Delta’s reputation as the “Home of Champions.” He noted that the state has a rich history of producing national icons such as Stephen Keshi, Austin Okocha, Blessing Okagbare, and Ese Brume. The governor affirmed that the state maintains this impressive record through significant investments in modern facilities, grassroots competitions, and youth empowerment initiatives.

More than 6,000 athletes from all parts of the country are set to compete in 37 different sports. As the host, Delta State is looking to extend its remarkable dominance, having won all eight previous editions of the Games(sports).
This year marks the third consecutive time that Delta State has hosted the prestigious event.
President Tinubu’s emphasis on sports as a unifying force is inspiring. With Delta State’s strong sporting heritage and investments in modern facilities, it’s exciting to see over 6,000 athletes from across the country compete.
