Three Chinese miners were rescued by Niger State Police Command operatives after an angry mob pursued and attempted to attack them.
The incident began when the miners’ vehicle struck a 15-year-old girl.

The miners, identified as Wang Sheng Guo, Zhou Oin Sheng, and Ding Xue Cai, were traveling with a police escort in a Toyota SUV bearing registration number SML-61-JJ. They were en route to a mining site in Sakaba, Kebbi State, when the accident occurred in Tashan-Hajiya village, Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State. The victim was named Fatima Abubakar.
Following the collision, the miners and their escort allegedly failed to stop and attend to the injured girl. Instead, they continued their journey towards the mining site in Kebbi State.
This action incensed local villagers who witnessed the incident.
Witnessing the miners’ apparent disregard for the accident, community members gave chase on motorcycles. The pursuit was aided by the poor road conditions and a burst tire on the miners’ vehicle, which forced them to stop in Manigi, Mashegu Local Government Area.

The pursuing mob caught up with the miners, and the situation escalated. The villagers reportedly damaged the vehicle and were on the verge of administering “jungle justice” when the Niger State Police Command intervened.
A villager, speaking anonymously, explained that the miners’ refusal to stop after hitting the girl fueled the mob’s anger. Had they stopped to assist, the villagers would not have harmed them, especially since the girl’s injuries were not severe. The girl was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment
Police spokesman Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the incident, stating that normalcy had been restored in the community and that no lives were lost. He provided details of the event, confirming the vehicle’s registration number and the victim’s name and age.
Abiodun clarified that the police intervened to rescue the expatriates and their escort from the mob attack. He also stated that the accident victim was receiving treatment and responding well, though the vehicle sustained damage.
