The index, released on March 5, 2025, positions Burkina Faso at the top with a score of 8.581, followed by Pakistan, Syria, Mali, and Niger. These rankings highlight the Sahel region as a significant epicenter of global terrorism.
Nigeria experienced 565 terrorism-related deaths in 2024, an increase from previous years. This escalation in fatalities signals a concerning trend, despite earlier reductions in terrorism-related deaths.

The Sahel region has emerged as the global epicenter of terrorism, accounting for over half of all terrorism-related deaths in 2024. This represents a significant increase since 2019, with conflict-related deaths in the region surpassing 25,000.
