
He clarified that the National Assembly has not yet taken a formal stance on the issue, despite the numerous applications. Kalu emphasized that the parliament is committed to adhering to the established constitutional procedures for new state creation.
He stated that none currently meet the constitutional requirements outlined in Section 8. While the National Assembly remains open to the idea of creating new states, they haven’t taken a formal position.

Kalu emphasized the need for applicants to resubmit their proposals by March 5th, ensuring they comply with the necessary constitutional guidelines, including securing a two-thirds majority vote in both chambers of the National Assembly, state houses of assembly, and local governments.
He explained that the current proposals are considered “ineffective” due to these unmet requirements and encouraged applicants to address the gaps in their applications.
