La Liga has publicly stated that FC Barcelona lacks the necessary financial resources to register players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.
This declaration comes ahead of a crucial decision by Spain’s sports council (CSD) regarding the players’ eligibility to participate in official matches. The core of the issue revolves around Barcelona’s financial fair play compliance.
In January, Barcelona announced a significant deal involving the sale of VIP boxes at their Camp Nou stadium, which is currently undergoing reconstruction. This deal, reportedly valued at 100 million euros, was intended to provide the club with the financial flexibility required to register new players

However, La Liga’s assessment contradicts this claim.
La Liga’s statement reveals that Barcelona had used an auditor between December 31 and January 3 to record the VIP box deal on their financial books. However, the club’s current auditor has omitted this transaction from the interim financial statements for the first part of the 2024-25 season. This discrepancy forms the basis of La Liga’s assertion that the deal’s proceeds are not reflected in the club’s profit and loss accounts.
La Liga has further indicated that they have reported the auditor used by Barcelona during the aforementioned period to the Accounting and Auditing Institute. This action underscores the seriousness of La Liga’s concerns regarding the accuracy and validity of Barcelona’s financial reporting.
According to La Liga’s official statement, Barcelona “did not have on December 31, 2024, or on January 3, 2025, nor has it had since that date, nor does it currently have (the financial fair play capacity) for the registration of the players Dani Olmo and Pau Victor.” This assertion directly challenges Barcelona’s claim that the VIP box deal provided sufficient financial room for player registrations.

Barcelona has declined to provide any official comment regarding La Liga’s statements. This silence has added to the uncertainty surrounding the players’ registration status and the club’s financial situation.
The CSD had previously granted Barcelona precautionary permission to utilize Olmo and Victor. This decision came after La Liga blocked the club from registering the players before a December deadline, when their temporary licenses expired. The players were initially registered using a financial loophole triggered by an injury to defender Andreas Christensen.
The CSD’s temporary ruling allows Olmo and Victor to play for Barcelona until a definitive decision is reached in the ongoing dispute between the club, La Liga, and the Spanish football federation (RFEF). This final ruling is expected on or before April 7.
Since their initial registration, Olmo, despite currently being injured, has made 13 appearances, contributing two goals and four assists. Victor has made five appearances as a substitute. The ongoing dispute casts a shadow over their continued participation in future matches.
