A distressing incident has unfolded in Edo State, as suspected herders have reportedly killed two farmers in Eware Village, located within the Etsako West Local Government Area
The victims, identified as Lucky Salami and Julius Arewa, were allegedly attacked with machetes, resulting in their deaths.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, a third individual, Omokhagbon Abu, also known as Udugboya, is currently battling for his life in a hospital following the same attack. This violent episode has instilled fear and unrest within the Eware community and its surrounding areas(Edo State).
This recent act of violence occurs shortly after Governor Monday Okpebholo Oof Edo State called for heightened security measures in response to similar killings in Okpekpe (Etsako East) and Ivbiaro (Owan East). In those prior incidents, suspected Fulani herdsmen were also accused of hacking three people to death.

The Chairman of Etsako West Local Government Area, Marvelous Zibiri, confirmed the incident, stating that the killings took place in Ward 8 Anwain, and that the perpetrators are believed to be Fulani herdsmen. He condemned the “dastardly and heinous act,” emphasizing the local government’s intolerance for violence and lawlessness.
Zibiri expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased and called upon the Edo State Government and security agencies to conduct a swift investigation, ensuring that those responsible are brought to justice. He also stressed the urgent need for increased security presence in rural communities to protect farmers, who are vital to the local economy.

In an appeal to the public, Zibiri urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding. He also called on community leaders and stakeholders to collaborate with security agencies by providing any information that could assist in the apprehension of the culprits.
Efforts to obtain immediate comments from security agencies yielded limited results. The head of the Edo State Security Corps directed inquiries to the police, while the Edo State Command Police Public Relations Officer stated that he was awaiting details from the divisional police in the area. As of the time of reporting, those details had not been provided.
