Okocha’s strong stance was articulated during a press briefing in Port Harcourt on Monday, where he dismissed Governor Fubara’s recent invitation to the 27 state lawmakers as a “Greek gift.” This invitation followed the Supreme Court’s validation of the lawmakers as the legitimate legislative body in the state.
Okocha questioned the governor Furaba sudden shift in approach

The invitation, issued via a letter signed by the Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Tammy Danagogo, was viewed with suspicion by Okocha. He questioned the governor Furaba’s sudden shift in approach after a period of prolonged contention.
Okocha asserted that the APC, as the primary opposition party in Rivers State, has resolved to take a firm stand against Governor Fubara, whom he labeled as “clueless.” He accused the governor of disregarding the law and disrespecting President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, which included an eight-point agenda that Fubara has allegedly failed to implement.

Okocha criticized the manner in which the invitation was issued, specifically noting that it was signed by the Secretary to the State Government rather than the governor himself. He described this as an “aberration” and maintained his belief that the invitation was disingenuous.
He further stated that the APC would not remain passive while Governor Fubara, in his view, “runs the state aground” through his governance style.
Okocha presented Governor Fubara with two options: “he should honourably resign or be impeached.” He emphasized that the governor has “run the state aground and disrespected Mr. President.”
He reiterated that the Supreme Court’s judgment is final and that the governor’s only viable course of action is to resign or face impeachment. He also asserted that he did not need to be a member of the Rivers State House of Assembly to list the numerous impeachable offenses that Fubara has allegedly committed.
Okocha warned that Governor Fubara’s continued presence in office could lead to political instability, describing the state as “sitting on a keg of gunpowder” and urging him to “honourably resign” to prevent further escalation.
