The Delta State Government has begun implementing measures to register herdsmen and cattle owners operating within its borders.

This initiative aims to reduce the increasing violence against farmers and promote peaceful coexistence between farming communities and pastoralists.
Chief Jeffrey Azagba, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Livestock and Inter-Ethnic Relations, announced this development during a meeting with the Delta State Chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN).
“The havoc caused by armed herdsmen in some communities is deeply concerning,” Chief Azagba stated. “Profiling them will assist in identifying problematic individuals and help ensure tranquility in our communities.”
He urged MACBAN’s leadership to provide a complete roster of their members, stressing Governor Sheriff Oborevwori’s dedication to eliminating any elements that threaten his peace and development agenda.

“Delta State is primarily an agricultural state. We must increase agricultural output without the threat of insecurity,” Azagba emphasized. “Anyone assisting or condoning criminal acts should either leave or be ready to face the full force of the law.”
In response, Mustapha Suleiman, the State Secretary of MACBAN, expressed appreciation for the government’s proactive step.
He pledged the full cooperation of the herdsmen community with the administration’s peace and security objectives.
“We commend the government’s approach and will collaborate closely to ensure peaceful coexistence,” Suleiman affirmed.
