The Delta State Government has taken decisive action to address the deteriorating state of a crucial section of the Warri/Sapele/Benin Road, awarding the reconstruction contract to the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC).
The project, which was publicly announced by the delta State Tenders Board, focuses on the stretch from the Spare Parts Market U-Turn in Effurun to just past Ohore Junction before Omenta Bridge, spanning the Uvwie and Okpe Local Government Areas. The work is scheduled to be completed within a 12-month

Under the terms of the contract, CCECC is tasked with reconstructing a total of 10 kilometers—five kilometers on each carriageway. The reconstructed road will have an expanded width of 11.6 meters, which includes 2.8-meter shoulders on either side.
The project’s features also include the construction of stormwater drains, a reinforced concrete pavement, and a durable wearing course, with an estimated cost of ₦35 billion.

Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, through his comprehensive MORE Agenda, has consistently prioritized the renewal of infrastructure and the promotion of sustainable urban development. This reconstruction effort is expected to alleviate severe traffic congestion, enhance connectivity, and stimulate economic activity along one of the most vital gateways into Delta State.
Despite the fact that the Warri/Sapele/Benin Road falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Government, years of persistent failed sections, gridlock, and frequent accidents have made the route a nightmare for both commuters and businesses. The state’s intervention in this federal project demonstrates a firm commitment to providing timely relief to motorists and preserving Delta’s status as a commercial hub in the South-South region.
By engaging CCECC, a company with a strong track record in executing large-scale road projects, the Oborevwori administration has offered a clear assurance to residents and road users that the final output will be of high quality and durability. This move further underscores the governor’s resolve to deliver infrastructure that supports inclusive growth and prosperity, proactively tackling challenges that extend beyond state-owned roads to ensure safer, faster, and more reliable access to markets, industries, and neighboring states.

Governor Oborevwori’s administration is setting a new standard for infrastructure development in Delta State. This strategic move demonstrates the governor’s commitment to delivering high-quality projects that benefit residents, road users, and the broader community. Kudos to the Oborevwori administration for prioritizing inclusive growth and prosperity through infrastructure development.
Good move by the Delta State Government. That section of the Warri/Sapele/Benin Road really needed urgent attention. Hopefully, with CCECC handling the project, we’ll soon have a smoother and safer road for everyone
“This is indeed a welcome development by the Delta State Government. The Warri/Sapele/Benin Road is a vital economic route, and its reconstruction will not only ease the suffering of road users but also boost commerce and connectivity in the region. Partnering with CCECC shows the government’s commitment to lasting solutions. Special applause goes to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for his visionary leadership and decisive action in prioritizing the welfare of Deltans.”
