An Ilesa Magistrate Court in Osun State has ordered a woman, Rhoda Adu, to pay her boyfriend, Olapitan Sola, ₦150,000 in damages. Adu accepted ₦3,000 as transport fare to visit Sola but subsequently ghosted him.
The incident unfolded when Sola transferred the agreed-upon fare to Adu. However, she immediately switched off her phone and failed to keep her promise. Feeling deceived and emotionally hurt, Sola reported the matter to the Ayeso Police Station. Adu was subsequently arrested and brought before the court.
During the trial, Sola presented compelling evidence, including the mobile money transfer receipt and their WhatsApp conversation.
In her verdict, Magistrate Akogun Oludare ordered Adu to repay the ₦3,000 transport fare. Furthermore, she was ordered to pay ₦100,000 for breaching the agreement and an additional ₦50,000 to compensate Sola for the emotional distress caused by her actions. The court emphasized that this ruling aims to discourage similar deceitful behavior in the future.
