The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has conducted a significant operation in Ogun State, resulting in the arrest of 378 illegal immigrants. The arrests were made following credible intelligence reports indicating the involvement of these individuals in fraudulent activities within the state. The operation was a joint effort between officers of the Ogun State Command and Zone A headquarters, focusing on the Lambe/Ajuwon Akute areas, known hideouts for illegal aliens.

Muhammed Akadri, head of the Ogun State Command, provided details of the operation and the subsequent profiling of the arrested illegal immigrants. The breakdown of nationalities revealed 334 Cameroonians, 27 Ghanaians, 26 Beninese, and one Togolese. The group consisted of 251 males and 125 females, with the majority falling between the ages of 25 and 30.
A critical aspect of the investigation revealed that none of the arrested individuals possessed valid travel documents or residence permits. They had all entered Nigeria through unauthorized border routes and were unable to provide any form of identification during interrogation. This lack of documentation underscored the illegal nature of their presence in the country.

Comptroller Akadri emphasized that the Comptroller General of Immigration, Kemi Nandap, had issued directives for the swift repatriation of the illegal immigrants to their respective countries of origin. The NIS is committed to following all necessary procedures to ensure the safe and efficient return of these individuals.
This operation reflects the heightened efforts by Nigerian security agencies to combat illegal immigration and associated criminal activities. The recent arrests in Ogun State are part of a broader nationwide initiative to secure the nation’s borders and enforce immigration laws.

The NIS has been actively conducting similar operations across the country. Just last week, 40 illegal immigrants were apprehended in Oyo State, demonstrating the ongoing nature of these enforcement actions. Furthermore, the Minister of Interior, Tunji Olubunmi-Ojo, recently confirmed the deportation of 828 illegal immigrants as part of an ongoing nationwide exercise.
These sustained efforts highlight the Nigerian government’s commitment to addressing the issue of illegal immigration and ensuring national security. The NIS continues to work diligently to identify and apprehend individuals who violate immigration laws, thereby safeguarding the country’s borders and protecting its citizens.
