A Nigerian cardiologist in the United States, Dr. Ikenna Erinne, tragically died by suicide on January 26, 2025, after a prolonged legal battle with his ex-wife over child support and custody. Originally from Anambra State, the 36-year-old doctor reportedly shot himself following a devastating court ruling.
Sources indicate that the legal dispute, which centered on financial responsibilities and access to his children, had taken a significant toll on Dr. Erinne.
One acquaintance, Udo, claimed that the extensive legal fees had drained Dr. Erinne financially and contributed to the loss of his medical license. The court had reportedly ordered him to pay $15,000 per month in child support and restricted his access to his children.
News of Dr. Erinne’s death was shared by Obim Onujiogu, a member of the Nigerian community in the US, who described him as a dedicated doctor and loving family man. Dr. Erinne is survived by his children, Ugonna and Munachi, his parents, and several siblings. A funeral service was held on February 3, 2025, in Maryland.
