
The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has announced a significant commitment to enhancing healthcare in Nigeria, with plans to fund 2,000 medical surgeries by the second quarter of 2025.

NNPCL’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, Olufemi Soneye, revealed these plans during a stakeholders’ engagement with the National Assembly Press Corps in Abuja. He emphasized the oil sector’s contribution to national development and reiterated NNPCL’s commitment to driving progress across various sectors.
Soneye detailed the company’s ongoing healthcare initiatives, highlighting the successful completion of 1,000 free cataract surgeries in the South-West through the NNPCL Foundation. He further announced plans to conduct an additional 2,000 surgeries in the Northern, South-East, and South-South regions by mid-2025, aiming to improve access to essential medical care
Beyond these surgical interventions, NNPCL is collaborating with Afreximbank to complete the African Medical Centre of Excellence (AMCE), a 500-bed specialized hospital. This facility, scheduled to commence operations in June 2025, will focus on oncology, haematology, cardiology, and advanced medical training, providing world-class healthcare to Nigerians

Soneye also provided an update on the NNPCL Medical Hospital in Abuja, which has served over 122,000 patients in 2024 alone. The hospital plays a crucial role in providing critical care, including radiology, physiotherapy, maternity care, dental and eye treatments, and life-saving surgeries, demonstrating NNPCL’s commitment to improving healthcare access across the country.
