
Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) in Public Policy and Strategy by Novena University, Ogume, in recognition of his outstanding leadership.
The honorary degree was presented during the university’s 5th combined convocation ceremony on Saturday, held at its Amai campus in Ukwuani Local Government Area.
Expressing gratitude, Governor Oborevwori stated that the honor serves as both a motivation and a challenge to further his vision for Delta State through his “M.O.R.E.” agenda, which focuses on sustainable development through infrastructure renewal, youth empowerment, and a conducive business environment. He highlighted the successes achieved in road construction, micro-credit schemes for SMEs, and urban-rural integration.
The Governor commended the university’s Pro-Chancellor, Chuks Ochonogor, for his dedication to providing quality education and acknowledged Novena University’s significant role in the community through job creation and economic development. He urged the graduating students to embrace change and utilize their education to contribute positively to society.
The university’s Chancellor, HRM King Alfred Diete-Spiff, emphasized the importance of visionary and conscientious leadership in building a better Nigeria, highlighting Novena University as a model for positive change.
The Pro-Chancellor, Chuks Ochonogor, expressed pride in the university’s growth from three colleges to seven, including the Colleges of Medicine and Law.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Godwin Nduka, emphasized Novena University’s position as the first private university in Delta State and commended Governor Oborevwori’s leadership on various fronts, including salary payments, pension administration, and improved security.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries, including the State Deputy Governor, Sir Monday Onyeme, who graduated with a Master of Science Degree in Accounting.
