
Enugu, Nigeria – A devastating tanker crash in Enugu on Saturday resulted in the tragic loss of 18 lives, while 13 individuals were fortunate enough to be rescued.The accident, involving a total of 17 vehicles, including a fuel tanker, a water tanker, and 15 other vehicles, occurred when the fuel tanker experienced a brake failure. The uncontrolled tanker collided with multiple vehicles, triggering a massive fire that consumed 11 of them.
According to a statement released by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), 31 individuals were involved in the crash. Tragically, 18 victims perished in the fire, while 10 sustained injuries. Three individuals escaped unharmed.
The rescue operation was swiftly initiated, with the FRSC leading the efforts alongside Enugu State Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah and other officials. Traffic was promptly diverted to ensure the smooth flow of movement along the affected route. The removal of the burnt vehicles is currently underway.
FRSC Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed deep condolences to the families of the victims and urged motorists to utilize alternative routes. He strongly emphasized the importance of road safety and cautioned all road users to exercise extreme caution at all times.
